Sites of science: Cuba & India

Sites of science: Cuba & India

We independently visited India and Cuba in 2008/9

These parallel research trips explored sites of scientific investigation and knowledge production in two very different cultural and political contexts. In India and Cuba, we documented spaces where science intersects with colonial histories, post-colonial development, and the social organization of knowledge.

The resulting work examined how scientific institutions embody cultural values and historical legacies, using holographic documentation to investigate the material culture of research—the instruments, spaces, and practices through which scientific knowledge is produced and maintained across different societies.
